A great publication in Nature Communications

A new 3D structure formed by DNA sequences with GGGAGCG repeats found in the regulatory region of the PLEKHG3 gene was determined. Such a G-rich sequence was expected to form G-quadruplexes. For the first time a G-rich sequence was demonstrated to adopt a four-stranded architecture distinct from G-quadruplexes. The fold is stabilized not only by the presence of Na+, K+ and NH4+ but also Li+ ions. The new fold expands the known repertoire of DNA structures.
