Primož Šket was born on December 20, 1977, in Ljubljana, Slovenia. He received his B.Sc. degree in organic chemistry at University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology in 2001 with thesis entitled: "Synthesis of reagents for asymmetric electrophilic bromination on the basis of camphor". From 2002 to 2005 he was a Ph.D. student working at the Slovenian NMR Centre, National Institute of Chemistry, Ljubljana, Slovenia under supervision of Prof. Dr. Janez Plavec. In 2005 he received his D.Sc. in chemistry at the same University with Ph.D. thesis entitled: "NMR studies of metal ion binding inside G-quadruplex DNA structures". Since 2009 he works as a research associate at the National Institute of Chemistry. For his Ph.D. thesis he got Krka’s prize and Pregl’s prize of National Institute of Chemistry for the best Ph.D. in the field of chemistry and relative sciences in 2006. Scientifically, he has been involved in various aspects of NMR spectroscopy of nucleic acids since 2002. During his PhD work and after he has focused on 3D G-quadruplex structures determination and on studies of their metal ion interactions. With the use of NMR spectroscopy he has shown that the folding topologies of G-quadruplex structures critically depend on the sequence details as well as nature of cations present in solution. In the year 2011, at international NMR conference Euromar 2011, he got for his poster one of the prizes titled Goethe-BMRZ Poster Prize. He devotes a lot of time to the study of the compounds in the solid, particularly active pharmaceutical ingredients, by means of solid-state NMR spectroscopy. Dr. Šket is a co-author of 35 publications published in scientific journals with high impact factors. He was co-organizer of several scientific meetings. Primoz Šket is also working mentor at master degrees.

Research interests of P. Šket include various aspects of the use of NMR spectroscopy in the field of the study of 3D structures of nucleic acids and its interaction with metal ions. At this work, in addition to NMR spectroscopy I am using DNA / RNA Synthesizer, UV spectroscopy, CD spectroscopy. Investigations of compounds in solid, especially pharmaceutical active ingredients by the use of NMR spectroscopy. Study of intermolecular interactions by NMR spectroscopy in solution and solid state. Determination of the crystallinity and amorphousness of solid samples. Determination of the impurities by NMR spectroscopy.
