Maja Marušič was born on 19th of May, 1987 , in Novo Mesto, Slovenia. She received her B.Sc. in biochemistry at Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, in 2011. From 2011-2017 she was working as Young researcher under supervision of Prof. Dr. Janez Plavec at Slovenian NMR Centre, National Institute of Chemistry, Ljubljana, Slovenia, exploring characteristics of non-canonical DNA structures with NMR, CD and UV spectroscopy and molecular dynamics. In 2017 she defended her Ph.D. thesis with the title "Guanine rich sequences of human papillomaviruses genomes and their secondary structures" at Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. For her Ph.D. thesis she received National Loreal-UNESCO scholarship "For women in science" and Great Krka prize in 2017. In 2017 she joined Prof. Dr. Katja Petzold lab at Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics, Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden, as postdoc researcher, focusing on dynamics of ribosomal RNA. In 2020 she returned to Slovenian NMR centre, where she is employing various isotope labelling techniques for production of DNA to measure dynamics of non-canonical G-rich structure by relaxation dispersion NMR.

Research interests:

• NMR spectroscopy of nucleic acids
• structure, dynamics and interactions of nucleic acids
• folding and sequence-structure relationship of non-canonical G-rich nucleic acids
